As a subcontractor to Berglund
Construction, Thatcher installed 20 helical bearing piles to provide support for
a new addition to Wesemann Hall. Thatcher worked with the manufacturer of the
helical piles to develop a solution which provided maximum support for minimal
cost. Thatcher coordinated the required submittals for the custom-designed piles
from the helical supplier to the general contractor. Thatcher's contract with
Berglund included a "Commitment to Quality," clearly outlining the expectations
of the General Contractor for its subcontractor, Thatcher, in regards to
coordination, record keeping, and compliance with the Quality Assurance/Quality
The expansion of Wesemann Hall allowed
Valparaiso University's Law School to create a Career Planning Center. The
Center has rooms for career counseling, employer interviews, and career
training. Its location within the existing Law School building makes it easily
accessible to Law School students, and encourages its use.
The construction of the project was not
without its challenges. Wet weather caused delays for the excavating contractor,
and Thatcher worked with the general contractor, Berglund, to adjust its
mobilization date and supply deliveries.
In addition to standard safety training,
all of Thatcher's employees were required to pass a background check before
beginning work on-site. The project was completed without any safety incidents
among Thatcher's crew.
