Subcontractor of the Year - 2010

Dominion State Line Energy: Dozer Trap Conveyor
 Sheet Piling Installation
 Hammond, Indiana

Working as a subcontractor to Enspect Engineering, Inc., Thatcher Foundations Inc. installed 60 WF of AZ 37 sheet piling with HP 12 x 74 waler to create to "U" shaped walls. The 50' piles were driven into place, then bolted to the waler.

As the project was adjacent to a coal stockpile, special case burning and welding was required. High tension wires near the project site also required extra vigilance as Thatcher moved equipment in and out of the area. Due to careful planning and strict observance of the safety standards outlined in the pre-job safety orientation, more than 300 manhours were completed on this job without any accidents or injuries. Thatcher's on-site employees included members of Indiana Local 150 Operators and Indiana Local 142 Teamsters.

Prior to beginning construction work, Thatcher consulted with Enspect engineers to determine the most durable and cost-effective design, as well as to find a type of sheet piling which would be available to meet the project's tight schedule. Thatcher also worked with the excavating contractor to coordinate work to maintain an efficient schedule for all parties.
